How does the sequence inform the audience of the conventions if a thriller?
Opening sequences are essential to thrillers as it uses a stylistic way of portraying what the film might be about, as well as creating an enigma which is then interwoven throughout the film leaving the audience in question as to what might happen. The variety of conventions used piece the movie are all as significant as the storyline. This essay will be a detailed analysis of all the conventions within the film industry as well as how and why it informs the audience of the conventions.
The opening sequence commenced with a high angle shot of the house which gradually zoomed into it creating an eire atmosphere for the viewers to feel a chill. The point of view shot gives the audience a perspective of the house and what is inside it. It also could be a handheld camera which takes us back to the enigma and to who the mysterious camera belongs to. The element of mystery creates an essence of suspicion within the audience which
There were a variaty of edits used during the opening scenes one of the edits used was a fade in towards the beginning and then the scene finalised with a jumpcut from the point of view shot on the parents. This point of view shot creates a sense of mystery leaving the audience in an enigma as to what might happen the following scene.
The different sound techniques were a contributing factor to the idea of creating a thrilling atmosphere. For instance the opening sequence began with a non diagetic soundtrack which is conventional to thrillers as it is prepping the audience for the horrific events about to take place. The following sound was most effective as if had a spooky element, the off screen sound was of the children chanting a halloween poem, this specifically increases the tension and gives the audience a chill. The use of silence after the off screen sound was most useful as it is creating a climatic atmosphere and make the viewers extremly tense.
Erie music is used throughout which is made parallel to the sound of the footsteps. The increase of the pitch throughout the sequence is a constant ringing which is a good combination with the sudden piano tune. This is creating anticipation through the clip and sound makes every movment of the characters even more bold and
